Bad Democrat

There’s something about the California redistricting proposal, Proposition 50, that annoys me to no end. Prop 50 is an effort to fight the Republicans, who added 5 Republican House seats through gerrymandering Texas, by gerrymandering California to be more 5 seats more blue. And the thing that annoys me is…we would have 5 more representatives from California in the House of Representatives.

I don’t want more Californians in the Democrats.

I think it makes us unrelatable to large swaths of the country. I think it makes us annoyingly coastal–and not just coastal but West coastal. And I think it just makes Congress reek of California.

Well, sure, but you need seats where you can get them and the Democrats won’t be lost to gerrymandering.

You need seats where you can get them: the Democrats would be better to gerrymander 5 swing states.

The Democrats won’t be lost to gerrymandering: don’t let the Republicans gerrymander.
