Printer paper is $5.79. A big box of it (from Office Depot) is $25.99. It’s 3 times the size of the single package (from Target) but 5 times the cost. I think part of what you’re paying for is the peace of mind that you won’t run out of printer paper anytime soon. It’s not expensive–as in, the cost is not annoying for what you’re getting.
Wouldn’t you suspect that a lot of people lamenting about the affordability crisis can technically pay for their lifestyle, but are annoyed at how much the things are costing based on what they’re getting?
