The Southern Poverty Law Center was just indicted by the DOJ for paying the white supremacist groups that the famous civil rights organization claimed to be battling. They paid the Klu Klux Klan, the United Klans of America, the the National Socialist Movement, the National Socialist Party of America (Nazis), and the Aryan Nations-affiliated Sadistic Souls Motorcycle Club, as well as the white supremacist group The American Front. They actually paid $270,000 to a member of the group that planned Unite the Right (the one where they took torches and chanted in Charlottesville, Virginia). I can’t believe this.
They were indicted with six counts of wire fraud, four counts of bank fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. A grand jury returned the indictment.
This is an excerpt from The Hill: Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche accused the SPLC of “paying sources to stoke racial hatred.”
“To that end, it was doing the exact opposite of what it’s told its donors. It was not dismantling extremism, but funding it,” he said.
“To carry out this scheme, SPLC created bank accounts in the name of at least five completely fictitious organizations that had no bona fide employees or legitimate business purpose,” he added, noting one informant was paid $270,000 over eight years.
End excerpt.
The bigotry of MAGA, like I said, was a claim that got fuel–like, a lot of fuel–from events like the Charlottesville rally. And it turns out that the Southern Poverty Law Center paid for it, and I mean it, paid to make it happen.
